Press Release: December 1, 2009 The Silver Spring Township Veterans Memorial Committee is looking for veterans to be interviewed to preserve their history, and share their experiences with a new generation of Americans. The committee has teamed with Cumberland Valley School District and the Army Heritage Center Foundation in cooperation with the US Army Heritage and Education Center (AHEC) at Carlisle Barracks to preserve the stories and memories of local veterans. We seek military veterans with peacetime or wartime service, combat or support experiences, overseas or at home tours, all services, and any time period. Interviews will be conducted by select students professionally trained to conduct interviews as part of their studies at school. Interviews will be submitted for preservation in the official AHEC archives, the Library of Congress' American Folklore Project, and with Silver Spring's coming Veteran's Memorial. The Veterans Memorial Committee is committed to promoting service to the community and sacrifice beyond self through highlighting the service of all veterans. Veterans, or anyone who would like to nominate a veteran, who would like to share and save their experiences with future generations should contact Clarence Bouchat at bouchatc@hotmail.com or Terri Martini at 766-0178. |
