Design Working Group
The mission of the Design Working Group is to provide the steps necessary to organize and outline the physical design and construction of the Silver Spring Township's Veterans Memorial. The main goal is to obtain as many designs as possible to assist in establishing a design that will embrace the criteria and mission of the Veterans Memorial Committee.
The Committee will establish the rules and guidelines for the competition process including time lines for the open design, the site for placement of the Memorial and the material needed for the construction .
To accomplish the design task, the rules, guidelines and dates for the design competition will be posted on the Silver Spring Township's Web site. The design must follow the guidelines established by the Memorial Committee and must embrace the Memorial's Mission statement.
The Memorial's site will be chosen by the Design Group with approval from the Memorial Committee and final approval of the Township Supervisors. The Memorial Site must be within the boundaries of Silver Spring Township. Upon final selection of the design, the design will be reviewed by Legal staff, Architects and Engineers to finalize and determine the feasibility of the structure.
Material for the construction of the Memorial will be determined by Engineers and Architects designated by the Committee.
The Design Committee will work closely with the Fund Raising and Public Relation Committee to obtain funds and materials needed for construction and completion of the Memorial
SSTVMC Public Relation Work Group Mission Statement
The mission of the Silver Spring Township Veterans Memorial Committee Public Relations Working Group is to increase public awareness and understanding of the mission of the Veterans Memorial Committee to design and build a Veterans Memorial to honor all veterans of Silver Spring Township through all wars and conflicts including peace time service.
We will provide support to the Veterans Memorial Committee through the use of the various public media and events. Provide strong marketing concepts to the shareholders of the Silver Spring Township and its Veterans Memorial Committee.
We will use the best research and media techniques used in today’s public relation campaigns. We are able to provide this high level of service due to our strong belief in continuing professional development. We are committed to maintaining a rewarding environment in which we can accomplish our mission.
SSTVMC Public Relation Work Group
1) Present and promote the design and building of the Silver Spring Township Veterans Memorial monthly
2) Publish and distribute the SSTVMC written information to the public
3) Provide assistance to the Fund Raising Work Group in organizing activities to raise money for the building and continuing maintenance of the Veterans Memorial
4) Provide assistance to the finished memorial by helping to maintain the education aspect of the memorial
5) Define and support selected research
6) Acknowledge local veterans of Silver Spring Township
7) Cooperate with other work groups for mutual benefit and public relations
Fund Raising Working Group
The mission of the SSTVMC Fund Raising working group is to provide the necessary funding and resources to construct and maintain the physical memorial and virtual memorial on-line for perpetuity.
We will raise funds and necessary resources by legal and practical means available to a committee of the Silver Spring Township. This will include, but not be limited to grants, gifts, donations, sale of various objects, sweepstakes, raffles, yard sales, gift card sales, games of chance and any other means provided to the committee.
To accomplish this task, we will recruit volunteers, benefactors, legislators, veterans, businesses, schools, fire and ambulance departments, persons of interest and as many community persons as possible to help meet this challenge.
The fund raising working group will also act as treasury for the VMC by maintaining accurate bookkeeping records of income and expenditures; obtaining outside audit reports of all monies transacted, and being fiscally responsible to the mission of the SSTVMC. The fund raising working group will also investigate and instigate methods to preserve and grow additional funds for future needs of the web site and maintenance of the physical memorial through relationships with a local financial institution(s).
Work with Design & Build working group to insure best price / best practices from all contractors.
Find creative ways to raise money while raising public interest and awareness.
Communicate with legislators and local officials regarding needed funding.
Obtain all necessary charity designations to aid in funding.
Work with the PR working group to publicize all fund raising events.
Work with local financial institutions to create a trust fund for future needs of Education and PR group.
Education Working Group (Education, Use, Values Implementation)
- Responsibilities:

---- collect and document activities like Veteran of the Month
-- Support education venues that complement the memorial itself
--- Education content on web site
--- Brochures at memorial site
--- Wireless site at website for immediate interaction
--- Establish a virtual and real library of sources collected, encourage use
-- Interact with local schools and places of education (libraries)
--- recruit students and faculty to submit proposals for design or help in other ways to build VM
(fund raising, outreach, history, building activities)
---- visit superintendents and chancellors of local institutions
---- propose real problem solutions and opportunities as interns
----- journalism - interviews of veterans
----- history - document local and military historical events
----- architecture and drafting - design, build challenges
